Six.OH Effect

After an amazing 2018 run with his last effort My Way featuring veteran rapper P.O.Y (Proud of You) with production credits from Award Winning producer Rayo Beats it was no surprise that Six.Oh was making his way to Zimbabwean airwaves in a major way. Accompanied by a vintage 60’s vibe video feel you wouldn’t believe was shot in a train by the Creative Pot Six.Oh let it be known it was MY Way or no way at all.

SIX.OH (Rapper from Zimbabwe)

Now it’s 2019 and Zimbabwean rapper Six.Oh is back with yet another veteran rapper feature by the name Stunner, to bring to fruition The OH Effect. It looks like the bilingual rapper (he raps in one of Zimbabwe’s dominant local language of Shona mixed up with some English for good measure) seems to have found an impressive formula with these collaborations if the music is anything to go by. If you have wondered what Trap from Africa sounds like then wonder no more as we have the answer right here for y’all.

SIX.OH FT P.O.Y – My Way

The race for SIX.OH began in 2006 inspiring not only his penmanship and career but his name too. He says, “Six.Oh is derived from the year I started doing music (writing lyrics) which is 2006. So I took the last 2 digits and flipped them and that’s the outcome, SIX.OH”.  Having started out as a member of Lyrical Metaphors alongside Teeko Lugoobrious, Nemo DA Nemesis and P. Boi then later forming a duo with P. Boi you can see that Six.Oh has always been about coming together and collaborating for more impact. But it wasn’t until he released Tisu Shumba Dzacho which directly translates to we are the lions that he seemed to gain more clout with the media in Zimbabwe. Riding on some Trap production from one of Bulawayo’s finest producers by the name Represent Beats who is now based in China, all he did was come up with catchy hook and clever wordplay and the song was a smash.

SIX.OH – Shumba Dzacho (Audio)

The song resonated with the public very well thanks to the introduction of his mother tongue of Shona in his lyrics. Yes, until then Six.Oh rapped only in English so this new found ingredient seemed to put his identity woes on ice and carry him to new heights as it introduced his sound to new markets. The visuals were produced and directed by Creative Pot Africa and this set the standard of amazing visuals to follow from him after.

SIX.OH – Shumba Dzacho

So what’s with the Shumba (lion) references you may ask? Well, in Zimbabwe, totems (mutupo) have been in use among the Shona people since the initial development of their culture. Totems identify the different clans among the Shona that historically made up the dynasties of their ancient civilization. So, Six.Oh’s totem is that of the lion (Shumba) and that’s why the lion references. This leads us to his latest effort titled Matanga featuring Award Winning veteran rapper Stunner.

THE OH EFFECT

According to Six.Oh, “Matanga loosely translates to you have started. It’s focussed on people who talk negatively about other people all the time.” He went on to say, “I had been in communication with Stunner since the time I dropped Shumba Dzacho. Then one day I shared with him a concept I was working on and that led to this song Matanga (you have started).” The song was produced by multi-talented beatmaker named AyKay and mixed and mastered at ill Duce Dynasty by Fish F McSwag who is known for his signature afro fused Trap sound.  For now you can peep the Gaddiel Apps directed video for Matanga and let us know what you think.

SIX.OH FT STUNNER – Matanga

Six.Oh will be performing live alongside Stunner on Africa Day Holiday 25th of May at Club #ashtag in Bulawayo (Zimbabwe). The theme for the show is called The OH Effect and will feature performances from Award Winning P.O.Y (Proud Of You) among other artists. So come through and get dazed with the lion.
