Staten Island’s B‐Easy Made His Return To Hip‐Hop As Easy The Gent With New Single “Step Back”

Easy The Gent is a Hip Hop artist hailing out of Staten Island, New York whose childhood influenced his music career. Growing up with a single mother who was a gospel singer at their Baptist Church, he grew a passion for music and becoming an artist. Easy had to help out as the second oldest of four boys. He utilized music to express himself and help cope with things he couldn’t control.  At just ten years old, Easy began rapping about issues close to his heart such as his absent father, growing up too fast, and having to hustle. His friends and family realized that his lyrics were anything but elementary.

In addition to the struggles he faced when he was younger, Easy drew inspiration from artists such as Jay‐Z, Mase, Jada Kiss, DMX, Lauren Hill, and Michael Jackson. The combination of these musical influences in addition to the struggles he faced when he was younger, helped to mold his unique style. The perfect blend of street, hip‐hop, and soul.

The Gent is no stranger to the game. Besides growing up in a musical home, he was apart of the Sharpe Hustlers, a local rap group, and went by the name B‐Easy. In 2006, B‐Easy released his first independent mixtape titled “It Is Wut It Is. His debut solo record generated a lot of buzz earning him the opportunity to perform at numerous clubs around New York City. Although he was clearly gifted musically, Easy decided to prioritize hustling and just rap as a hobby.

After a long hiatus, B‐Easy made his return to hip‐hop as Easy The Gent. His best friend, Anthony “Coop” Cooper, another former member of the Sharpe Hustlers motivated and inspired him. B‐ Easy believed that he was the ticket out for the ones he loved. Fueled by this pressure and the support of those closest to him, he got back into music and made it a priority. Together he and Coop  teamed up and started Sharpe Block Easy Money.

The Staten Island lyricist recently dropped his new single “Step Back.” It took about a week to complete the curation of the EFFDOPE of Tribe Gang produced record. When asked what was the motivation behind the title he explains the interesting basketball terminology influence.  Easy goes on to say:

“The term Step Back comes from the basketball move to create space between you and the defender to make space for a shot. So I use Step Back in the same sense. If somebody is moving like a snake or  does something shady I take a step back from the relationship with that person. Put some distance between me and that person or just don’t deal with them anymore all together.”

Easy The Gent hopes to eventually become known as the best who has ever done it. When asked why he raps, he responded:

“I rap because what I have to say, people should hear. If sharing my experiences can help someone that may be dealing with a similar situation than I want to be able to do that. It’s not about success and fame.”

As an artist, Easy The Gent wants to be the poster child for Staten Island stating: “I want to be to Staten Island what Biggie is to Brooklyn.” With his confidence and skilled lyricism Easy is on the way to becoming the next Staten Island icon.
