Meet Wavyy Mob: Florida’s New Wave

Florida music group Wavyy Mob just let go of their brand new album “Drip World” and still plan to keep their musical impetus going, despite COVID-19 & the way it’s creating a “new normal”.

Rek & Tommo, who make up the group, display a wide range of musicianship and have nurtured this growth since 2017, implementing both singing and rapping into their songs. Rap HQ had an opportunity to catch up with the group to talk about the origins and get their insight on a few things related to their new album. See below for the interview and if you haven’t already, stream their new project “Drip World” here.

How long have you been making music?

We’ve been making music since 2017 on a more so lets make something out of this, but really i always loved music since a child and would make little songs on my grandma radio. I remember I used to put a mic into her radio and record over her old gospel tapes cassettes. Wow… that’s funny as hell now that I’m sitting here remembering those days.

Did you all always want to be rappers? Or did you have other dreams?

I always knew i wanted to do music not necessary be just a rapper, but more so a Artist that can make any type of song

What are sessions like with you all? Who gets in the booth first? How does that work?

i like friends around when i record for feedback but mainly i like to record myself.

Thoughts on this whole CoronaVirus situation? How are you all getting through it?

I really don’t know how i feel about it but I’m just trying to take advantage of all this time to create. create, create.

Any music videos to come from the new “Drip World” project?

Actually just dropped a visual to Rack A Day for Ig only but more are in the works..

Biggest obstacle in the music industry?

Getting heard without doing the most. “Clout Chasin” not saying anything wrong with people being entertainers but we know who really makes good music and does funny shit on the side versus the ones who shit be wack but just want attention. It makes it hard for the real artist to be heard from the social media crowd without doing some over the top shit to get people’s attention.

Favorite records off of the project?

My Favorite record might be “I Remember” because it lets people know I remember all the hate.
